Heritage Doncaster (previously Doncaster Heritage Services) has recently become an Arts Council’s National Portfolio Organisation. Heritage for Doncaster - connecting communities, improving lives, is a programme of work that aims to tackle individual and community isolation in four key deprived areas of Doncaster, using as its basis work involving museum collections.

This is a strategic programme of work that builds upon community engagement already undertaken through the Heritage Lottery Funded Doncaster 1914-18 project and the Arts Council’s Resilience Fund. We will be working with academic partners to rigorously evaluate the health and wellbeing outcomes of our work. It is anticipated that the results of this evaluation will be published as part of the growing body of research into the contribution that museums can make to the health and wellbeing agenda.

To enable this there will be a Programme Manager and a Community Engagement Officer as well as a delivery budget. This programme of work will only be successfully delivered through working with community partners, so a track record in this area is essential.

We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated heritage professional, ideally one who has experience of working with museum collections, but also with communities and volunteers and has experience of digital engagement techniques.

Doncaster Heritage Services is a transforming service consisting of Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery, Cusworth Hall Museum & Park, the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Museum, Doncaster Archives, Doncaster Local Studies Library and the Doncaster 1914-18 Project. We are working towards a new Library, Museum, Gallery and Archive building for Doncaster that is due to open in July 2020.
